Driving word of mouth amongst passionate believers
Brief
We were tasked with creating a trailer for Crysis 2, a first-person shooter with breathtaking, genre-defining visuals, set in 2023 New York. Whilst game play and visuals were promoted strongly, the game also promised a deep and engaging storyline. Our task was to create a trailer that could gain standout in a genre dominated by formulaic franchises.
Approach
We realised true shooters often enjoy immersive narrative, too. So we borrowed conventional story telling and editing techniques from movie trailers to introduce the plotline. Like a film trailer, we wanted to grab attention, entertain gamers, but still leave them wanting more.
Solution
We wanted to ensure our trailer was every bit as evocative as the game itself. So we took viewers on an emotional rollercoaster, from the catastrophic hopelessness of devastated NYC, through adrenalin pumping action to the promise of final liberation, with the empowering call to ‘Be The Weapon’.
Results
Fan response was instant and unanimous with over 3 million trailer views and a score of 9.6 out of 10 on gametrailers.com.
